The company’s latest software modem chipsets boast of a 50% reduction in the number of components and circuit board real estate required compared to similar chipsets. Using silicon data-access arrangement (silicon DAA) technology from Silicon Laboratories, the chipsets integrate codec functionality and a barrier between the modem and phone line without the need for external components, such as transformers. The reduction in parts is said to enable single-sided MDC modem cards. Designed for notebook PCs, the first of two chipsets consists of the SV92A2 AC’97 digital interface and CSP1038 silicon DAA device. A second pair for PCI applications includes the SV92P2 PCI digital interface plus the same CSP1038 silicon DAA. According to the company, using common silicon DAA devices for both notebook and desktop PCs results in common designs that are easier to build, certify and support.
