Achieving a power consumption of just 600 mW, the SimpliPHY VSC8601 and VSC8641 enter the arena as the lowest power Gigabit Ethernet PHYs. The highly integrated devices feature line side termination resistors to simplify PCB design, maximize board space, and create a higher-performance design. To further reduce complexity and component count, the devices include an internal 1.2V power regulator that operates on a single 3.3V supply. Integrated RGMII timing compensation on the VSC8601 eliminates the need for on-board delay lines. The VSC8601 is designed for LAN-on-motherboard and switching applications while the VSC8641 handles passive optical network chores. Both are available now. VITESSE SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Camarillo, CA.
