Offered as an alternative to existing PCMCIA cards, the company unveils what it calls the next generation of PCMCIA cards that support both the ExpressCard/34 (34-mm wide) and ExpressCard/54 (54-mm wide) form factors. The 9186 and 9187 ExpressCard Kits feature a locking mechanism that snaps into the kit frame providing strength and rigidity. According to the company, the kits offer a smaller and faster alternative to current PCMCIA cards. The card covers can include a built-in SIM card or slide-in SIM, making the kit suitable for GPRS and WLAN applications as well as Bluetooth, mobile communication, and industrial PCs. Kits are also available with customized plastic extensions to accommodate components that require additional board space, i.e., LEDs and antennas.
