Eight-Channel Temperature Sensor Saves Space

Oct. 6, 2010
Promising to reduce board area and overall system cost, the 4 mm x 4 mm MAX6581 provides eight temperature sensor channels, but requires only a single I2C address for all eight.

Promising to reduce board area and overall system cost, the 4 mm x 4 mm MAX6581 provides eight temperature sensor channels, but requires only a single I2C address for all eight. The device specifies an accuracy of ±1°C and each channel includes series-resistance and beta compensations. Essentially, it replaces up to eight local sensors or seven single-channel remote sensors and can measure the die temperature of external ICs with integrated thermal diodes. Available in a 24-pin TQFN package, price is $1.24 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
