Developed for use in RAID systems, HIP1012 is a dual-supply power distribution controller designed to safely remove and apply power to a disk drive, allowing RAID systems to continue functioning during servicing. The IC achieves its dual functionality by using active current limiting on both 5V/12V and 3.3V/5V power supply buses, with the chip using a timeout feature to avoid nuisance trips. This redundantly-controlled IC also features programmable current regulation and turn-on ramp circuitry and 100 mV (min.) of nominal over-current protection.
