The NCP370 embarks as the industry’s first integrated bi-directional device with positive and negative overvoltage protection (OVP) for cell phones, MP3/4, PDAs, and GPS systems, and over-current protection (OCP) for portable accessories such as FM transceivers, load speakers, and flash modules. The device promises to simplify and streamline portable electronics by eliminating the need for external components and improves front-end protection via positive protection up to +28V and negative protection down to -28V. Using a unique architecture, the single device also provides OCP for external accessories. Integrated low on resistance N-channel MOSFETs support the direct high charge current up to 1.3A necessary for the latest lithium battery charge levels. The NCP370 is available with several over-voltage thresholds to address the maximum rating of downstream applications. Additionally, it includes a second reverse mode, enabling the regulation of the reverse current coming from a portable device’s battery to supply external accessories. The device internally limits current up to 1.6A, a value controllable via an external pull-down resistor. Standby current is less than 1 µA. Available in a 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.55 mm LLGA-12 package, price for the NCP370MUAITXG is $0.80 each/3,000. ON SEMICONDUCTOR, Phoenix, AZ. (800) 282-9855.
