For upgrading communications infrastructure systems to deploy enhanced Ethernet services over SONET/SDH-based technology, the VSC7350 emerges as the industry's first MAC to support advanced Metro Ethernet services over both SONET/SDH and DWDM applications. It is an advanced Ethernet aggregation device containing two 10 Gb/s XAUI ports plus a SPI4.2 host interface and supports conversions from XAUI to SPI4.2 by transferring packets between each XAUI interface and up to 48 SPI4.2 channels. According to the company, the addition of VLAN-based aggregation in the MAC allows existing platforms to deliver all variations of EPL, EVPL, and E-LAN Metro Ethernet services over existing SONET/SDH networks. The VSC7350 supports an enhanced mode to the standard XAUI interface, which combines SPI-like channelization and finer flow control granularity with a lower number of pins and longer trace support than traditional XAUI interfaces. Using VLAN based channelization, per channel shaping, and an in- or out-of-band flow control option, users can support EVPL and E-LAN functionality for 48 unique users, each of which meeting individual carrier service level agreements. Available in a 27 mm x 27 mm FCBGA package, pricing for the VSC7350 is $99 each/10,000. VITESSE SEMICONDUCTOR CORP., Camarillo, CA. (800) 848-3773.
