As a baseband and rf chipset that supports all features of the Mobile WiMAX Wave 2 Profile, the BCS200 features advanced smart-antenna technologies such as MIMO and beamforming plus the company’s CMOS direct-conversion radio. Key performance benchmarks over the earlier MS120 WiMAX solution include a total throughput of more than 25 Mb/s, a more than 25% reduction in active power consumption, and a greater than 60% footprint reduction. The latter allows designers to incorporate WiMAX into space-constrained applications like mobile phones and consumer electronics. The BCS200 features the BCSB200 baseband chip and associated firmware, which implement the Physical Layer and Media Access Control functions with minimum load for the host processor. Also, the BCSR200 direct-conversion CMOS radio supports 2- and 3-GHz designs, as well as dynamically programmable channel bandwidths from 5 to 10 MHz. This enables seamless roaming among all WiMAX networks. To speed up development, the set comes with a complete reference design kit, including driver software and rf calibration tools. The BCS200 chipset and reference design kits are available immediately. BECEEM COMMUNICATIONS INC., Santa Clara. CA.
