Paving the way to affordable, high-quality sound, the latest version of the OXFW970 FireWire audio controller provides PC and Macintosh platforms with up to eight audio outputs and two input channels via a single IEEE 1394 connection. The device handles serial audio data conforming to the IEC61883-6 transmission protocol and AM824 audio format. Sampling 24-bit audio packets at 96 kHz, it provides four I2S stereo outputs, producing eight outputs for 7.1 surround sound. Available in a 100-pin TQFP, features include an embedded ARM7 processor, a buffer manager, RAM, and 512 kb of flash memory. Firmware upgrades are via the FireWire interface, and programming utilities are included. Debugging is by way of JTAG pins and a UART port.
