The PCI 9656 is claimed to be the industry's first bus-mastering silicon to enable 64-bit, 66-MHz PCI operation in adapters and imbedded hosts that incorporate Motorola PowerQUICC processors or generic 32-bit, 33-MHz PCI local bus design. The device supports three optional 32-bit, 66-MHz local bus interfaces selectable with a strapping option. One mode supports Motorola's MPC850/860 communications processor and the other mode supports generic 32-bit interfaces. The device meets requirements for hot-swap support, as well as PCI power management requirements. A complete reference design kit with software debug support and a hardware development kit CD-ROM will be available. The PCI 9656 is available in a 272-ball PBGA package and will sample in the fourth quarter of 2000 and is priced at $37 each/100.
