The most recent addition to the firm’s Impact line of communications devices is a dual UART that provides two full-duplex asynchronous receiver/transceiver channels in a single, 44-pin PLCC or PQFP package. The SC28L92 dual UART interfaces directly with µPs and can be used in a polled or interrupt driven mode. And as with all Impact devices, the UART can operate at 3.3V and 5V, with either the Intel or Motorola bus, and comes in commercial and industrial temperature range versions. The device is a pin and function equivalent of all of the firm’s dual UARTs, but with these added features: 16 character receive, 16 character transmit FIFOs, watchdog timer for each receiver, mode register, extended baud rate, and programmable receiver and transmit interrupts.
