Audio Analyzer Quantifies Performance Of Components And Systems

The U8903A audio analyzer helps users quantify characteristics that affect sound quality in audio devices. The Agilent U8903A is a scalable, two-channel instrument that replaces the widely-used legacy 8903B audio analyzer. It includes versatile measurement functions, diverse test signals, powerful analysis capabilities, and standard connectors (balanced and unbalanced). At DC and from 10 Hz to 100 kHz, the instrument helps engineers and technicians measure audio performance in applications such as wireless audio, analog components and ICs, and consumer audio. In the near future, the instrument will be upgradeable to eight input channels. Compared to the 8903B, the U8903A offers wider frequency coverage, expanded performance and greater functionality. It includes a graphical user interface (5.7-inch color display) and one-button selection of major operating modes. For automated applications, an application note describes compatible equivalent commands and provides sample test programs comparing the old R2D2 codes with new U8903A SCPI commands. The Agilent U8903A audio analyzer is priced at $12,000 and is available now. AGILENT TECHNOLOGIES INC., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 829-4444.
