Flash ADCs Power LCD Video Applications

June 1, 1999

A family of 8-bit analog-to-digital converters is optimized for digitizing RGB video graphics with high dynamic performance. The HI3200 ADCs are said to deliver the world's fastest conversion rate of any integrated or discrete implementation for LCD video applications. The devices' encode rates of 120 and 160 MSPS combine with full-power analog bandwidth of 250 MHz to support display resolutions as high as 1280 x 1024 at 85 Hz- with sufficient input bandwidth to accurately acquire and digitize each pixel. The 120-MSPS converters (HI3246 and HI3256) are suited for XGA LCD monitors with resolutions of 1024 x 768 pixels. The 160-MSPS versions (HI3276 and HI3286) deliver the dynamic performance and resolution support required for SXGA flat-panel LCD monitors at 1280 x 1024 pixels.
