Promising high-quality speech compression/decompression to multimedia and speech storage devices, the ICELP chip employs a speech codec algorithm that operates over a 10 kHz bandwidth, said to exceed standard specifications for wide-band applications. The algorithm accommodates two types of interfaces: proprietary and XDAIS-compliant. Multi-channel software codes speech signals and decodes bit streams in a 16-bit PCM format with a 20 kHz sampling rate. The codec performs speech encoding/decoding independently on a frame-by-frame basis. Other features include a 32-kb/s encoded bit stream rate, frame size of 16 ms, an algorithmic delay of 20 ms, and compliance with Texas Instruments' eXpressDSP standard.
