Unveiled as high-availability middleware for telecom, automotive, industrial control, and medical-instrumentation applications, Element provides a scaleable out-of-the-box application that makes it easy for users to outsource middleware development. It provides a set of services that sit between the operating system and applications, plus core services for synchronizing, instrumenting, monitoring, and establishing communications between applications spread across multiple operating systems and processors. Other features include network supervision and fault, shelf, and upgrade management services to monitor, repair, configure/provision, and upgrade live systems operating in the field. Additionally, Element is said to be the first HA middleware optimized for distributed embedded systems and will be available in the first quarter of 2006.
