A series of 1-MHz two-wire serial EEPROMs includes 256-kbit, 512-kbit, and 1-Mbit densities. The devices are compatible with I2C Fast-Mode-Plus, allowing data rates up to 2.5 times faster that the I2C Fast-mode. Operating at 1 MHz, the M24M01-HR can complete a 1-Mbit data transaction in 1 s, the 256-kbit M24256-BHR in 0.25 s, and the 512-kbit M24512-HR in 0.5 s. The two-wire serial EEPROMs support multiple access modes, including byte-write mode as well as 64-, 128-, and 256-byte page-write modes; random and sequential read modes; and automatic address incrementing. These modes simplify design in and help engineers optimize system performance and power consumption. A write-control input is provided, while three chip-enable pins allow up to eight devices on one bus. All three densities are available in variants operating from 1.8 V to 5.5 V or 2.5 V to 5.5 V. Samples of all three densities are available in SO-8 packages. The 256-kbit and 512-kbit densities are also available in TSSOP packaging. Unit pricing, in high-volume quantities, is: $1.40 for the 1-Mbit device, $0.80 for 512 Kb, and $0.55 for 256 Kb. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (781) 861-2650.
