Reducing design footprint by doubling flash memory and quadrupling RAM size compared to existing picoPower megaAVR microcontrollers, the ATmega1284P targets size-constrained, low-power applications in a small 44-pin package packing 128 KB of flash memory and 16 KB of SRAM. Both pin- and feature-compatible with the ATmega164PA, ATmega324PA, and ATmega644PA, the 1284P device provides a drop-in migration path from 16 to 128 KB of flash and 1 to 16 KB of RAM. It consumes 100 nA in power-down mode, 700 nA in power-save mode, and 0.45 mA in active mode at 1.8V and 1 MHz. Samples of the ATmega1284P are available now and volume price is $3.31 each/10,000. The ATmega1284, a non-picoPower version of the ATmega1284P, will be available in the fourth quarter. ATMEL CORP., San Jose, CA. (408) 441-0311.
