Clamshell Protects Disk Drives

Jan. 1, 2001

The thermoformed, shock-ribbed, translucent clamshell replaces ESD bags and protects a disk drive against stress and electrostatic discharge from handling. Placing a disk drive into the once-piece, hinged clamshell allows the user to read labels, scan barcodes and load software while the drive remains completely enclosed in the package. This alternative solution is claimed to have reduced the field-failure rate of drives by more than 70%.
