The RFMD RF5924 is designed specifically for embedded WLAN applications in cellular handsets.

Proprietary RFIC provider RF Micro Devices is now offering what they say is the industry’s first front-end module designed specifically for embedded wireless LAN (WLAN) applications in cellular handsets. RFMD’s RF5924 is a complete front-end module that requires no external components. Featuring a WLAN power amplifier (PA), switch, and receive balun, the RF5924 provides all the required functions between the RF transceiver and the system BPF/antenna. With all RF ports 50-Ω matched, the RF5924 is designed to simplify system implementation and reduce product development time.

The RF5924 comes in a 3.5-by-3.5-by-1.4-mm package, and has a direct battery connection with a single 3.1- to 4.5-V supply voltage. It features a Bluetooth port that contains an antenna that can be shared between WLAN and Bluetooth systems, and an integrated 2.5-GHz b/g amplifier.
