Designed to handle data flows of up to 1 Gb/s, Phoenix Contact’s new RJ45 magnetic jacks are similar to traditional Ethernet ports. The difference is they integrate magnetic components, such as transformers, chokes, and common-mode filters, directly in the jack housing.
According to Phoenix, the new RJ45 jacks (see figure) simplify the Ethernet design process, reduce PCB complexity, and minimize the risk of EMC. The latest jack series is offered in 90- and 180-degree orientations and is well-suited for wave soldering (THT) and reflow (THR) processing, which enables automated processing.
They also have a sturdy industrial design, making them good fits in harsh environments. Options include shield springs and LEDs as visual status indicators.
