Advantech stepped up its foray into automated optical inspection (AOI) with novel Power over Ethernet (PoE) and USB3 camera controllers for vision inspection. The AIIS-1240 and AIIS-1440 (AIIS = Advantech Intelligent Inspection System) handle applications that rely heavily on machine vision, such as packaging inspection, label inspection, wafer inspection, and alignment inspection. The AIIS-1240 for PoE, compatible with GigE Vision cameras, uses a single RJ45 cable that carries data and electrical power. It delivers 15.4 W maximum to each powered device at up to 100 meters. An Intel i210 LAN controller features IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP), allowing for synchronization of clocks distributed on a network (permitting frame synchronization from two or more PoE cameras in a vision-inspection app). The AIIS-1440 comes with a dedicated USB3 controller on each vision channel. Compliant with USB 3.0, it can transfer data at up to 5 Gbits/s. As a result, it supports a camera with 4608- by 3288-pixel resolution at 10 frames/s. Both controllers support Intel Core i7/i5/i3 processors. I/O interfaces include four PoE (AIIS-1240) or four USB3 (AIIS-1440) vision channels, four USB 3.0, four USB 2.0, and six serial ports. Two serial ports on the front panel can be configured as RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 via BIOS setting.
