DMOS Device Handles Two DC Motors

Designed to independently drive two dc motors, the A3974 serially-programmable, motor driver IC provides two DMOS H-bridges, each capable of output current to ±1.5A. The device operates on power supplies up to 50V and is programmed and controlled via a three-wire serial interface. Current decay mode and current sense comparator blank time are also set through this interface. When not driving motors, the chip can go either into idle or sleep mode. Other features include thermal shutdown with hysteresis, crossover-current protection, and undervoltage lockout circuitry. Price is $3.87 each/1,000. ALLEGRO MICROSYSTEMS INC., Worcester, MA.
