EDA Tool Serves Up System-Level Modeling and Simulation
What you'll learn:
- What is VisualSim Architect?
- What challenges do developers face with system modeling?
- Standout features in VisualSim Architect.
System-level modeling and simulation software can be applied to semiconductor design as well as model-based system engineering (MBSE) environments. Mirabilis Design's VisualSim addresses these applications (see figure).
Mirabilis Design’s founder, Deepak Sankar, talked to me about its VisualSim solution that’s available on the PC and in the cloud (watch the video above).
VisualSim incorporates a number of components, including VisualSim Architect, Explorer, and Cloud, as well as a wide range of IP blocks from PCIe interfaces to time-based schedulers. VisualSim Architect is a model-based design, graphical interface tool for building, running, and reporting on simulated systems.
The platform handles hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations, and it can be used to incorporate Mirabilis Design’s IP blocks into a system design. It supports SystemC, MATLAB, and Simulink.
VisualSim works with conceptual, functional, and architectural modeling levels, along with a template-based design architecture. It provides over 500 configurable reports that address everything from power consumption to quality-of-service (QoS). VisualSim supports designs from chiplet-based systems to processor architectures.

I earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters in Computer Science from Rutgers University. I still do a bit of programming using everything from C and C++ to Rust and Ada/SPARK. I do a bit of PHP programming for Drupal websites. I have posted a few Drupal modules.
I still get a hand on software and electronic hardware. Some of this can be found on our Kit Close-Up video series. You can also see me on many of our TechXchange Talk videos. I am interested in a range of projects from robotics to artificial intelligence.
