VIA Technologies introduced a 10.1-in. Android tablet, dubbed the “VIA Viega,” that’s engineered to survive showroom-floor, warehouse, construction-site, and other enterprise-level mobile-computing environments. The ruggedized, IP65-rated tablet’s design protects against spills, rain, and dust. Shock and vibration protection handles drops of up to two meters, and a tempered-glass panel prevents shattered screens. Its powered by a 1.2-GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 system-on-a-chip (SoC) with NEON technology, enabling high-end multimedia performance that includes hardware acceleration for HD product demonstration and training videos. Connectivity options range from Wi-Fi and GPS to Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC, as well as optional 3G for transportation or remote location scenarios. There’s also two Micro USB ports, one Micro HDMI-out port, a Micro SIM card slot, and Micro SD card slot. Memory includes 1 Gbyte of DDR3 DRAM and 16 Gbytes of eMMC flash. The VIA Viega’s customizable Android 4.2 operating system comes with security features such as hardware-assisted data encryption/decryption and built-in manageability through the VIA SMART ETK. A long-life polymer battery pack and optional customizable docking station facilitates connectivity for external peripherals and rapid charging capabilities.
