IAR Updates Embedded Workbench For RL78 MCUs

Version 1.40 of IAR Systems’ IAR Embedded Workbench for Renesas RL78 now supports the C++ feature multiple inheritances.

Version 1.40 of IAR Systems’ IAR Embedded Workbench for Renesas RL78 now supports the C++ feature multiple inheritances. As a result, developers can define classes based on multiple parents an inherit characteristics and features from them. The toolchain can handle more than 64 kbytes of contiguous data, which, for example, enables indexing of an array that’s larger than 64 kbytes. For really large integer values, the new version introduces the C99 data type “long long.” This data type stores extended-size integer values as 64 bits, and is useful in applications such as metering. To simplify development of RL78 microcontrollers, functionality is included to invoke external analyzers for project files (often used as an interface to static analysis tools like PC-lint). Custom argument variables integrated with external tools can be used in IAR Embedded Workbench for RL78 when sending arguments to an external build tool.
