Düsseldorf, Germany: Toshiba Electronics Europe (TEE) has developed two new high-voltage, high-current motor driver ICs that it claims will simplify stepper motor-based designs in office automation and industrial applications.
Based around a pulse-width modulation (PWM) constant current drive scheme, the TB62213FNG and TB62215FNG single-chip two-phase bipolar stepper motor drivers can deliver maximum motor output voltages of 40 V and maximum motor output currents of 3.0 A per phase. The TB62213FNG operates with a control interface that uses phase input information supplied by a host microcontroller, while the TB62215FNG has a clock-in decoder for clock input control.
Each of the new drivers features an on-chip voltage regulator that facilitates the creation of complete stepper motor control designs using a single-motor power supply of up to 40 V. Further design flexibility results from the ability to select two-phase, one-two-phase, or W1-2-phase excitation modes. On-board thermal and overcurrent shutdown and a power-on-reset (POR) function help to minimize board space and component count.
Manufactured using Toshiba’s proprietary BiCD process, the TB62213FNG and TB62215FNG incorporate DMOS FETs as output power transistors.
