Debuting as the world’s smallest real-time clock (RTC) module, the RV-4162-C7 measures 3.2 mm x 1.5 mm x 0.8 mm, translating into a board space of 4.8 mm2. Operating over a supply range from 1.3V to 4.4V, timekeeping functions down to 1V with a current consumption of 270 nA. Communication is via an I2C bus. The eight-pin ceramic package contains a 32.768 kHz crystal matched with a CMOS oscillator and RTC circuitry. At room temperature, frequency and time keeping is within ±20 ppm with an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Aging rate is a maximum of +3 ppm for the first year.
