End products requiring a well-regulated 2.5V output from a 3.3V source supporting loads of up to 7.5A are expected to be the primary users of three new families of high-current, very low dropout voltage regulators (LDOs). The TPS759xx, TPS755xx and TPS757xx LDOs have maximum output current ratings of 7.5A, 5A and 3A, respectively, with each family having four fixed output members (i.e., 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V and 3.3V) and one device adjustable over a 1.22V to a 5V output range.
At 3.3V, the 7.5A, 5A and 3A LDOs have typical dropout voltages of only 400, 250 and 150 mV, respectively. In 5-pin TO-220 and TO-263 packages, the LDOs range from $3.31 to $5.10 each/1,000 in price.
