Low-Noise, BGA-Packaged 1.5-W µModule DC-DCs Get UL60950 Recognition

May 28, 2014
Linear Technology’s LTM8057 and LTM8058 1.5-W-output µModule dc-dc converters feature 2-kV ac galvanic isolation (production tested to 3 kV dc) in a 9- by 11.25- by 4.92-mm ball-grid-array (BGA) package.

Linear Technology’s LTM8057 and LTM8058 1.5-W-output µModule dc-dc converters feature 2-kV ac galvanic isolation (production tested to 3 kV dc) in a 9- by 11.25- by 4.92-mm ball-grid-array (BGA) package. Incorporating an isolated transformer, control circuitry, power switches, and a modest amount of input and output capacitance, the converters have achieved UL60950 recognition under file #464570. Both operate from a 3.1- to 31-V input voltage range, delivering a regulated output voltage on the secondary side that’s adjustable from 2.5 to 12 V (LTM8057) and 1.2 to 12 V (LTM8058). The latter includes a low-noise linear post regulator that reduces output ripple to 20 µV rms at 300 mA. It also improves output voltage regulation to ±2.5% from ‒40 to +125°C. The LTM8057’s output voltage regulation accuracy is ±5% over the same temperature range. Creepage and clearance distances support a working voltage up to 250 V in a pollution degree 2 environment (pollution degree is a classification according to the amount of dry pollution and condensation present in the environment) for breaking ground loops in testers, servers, industrial automation, control, and servo systems.
