Audio DAC Boasts Of Lowest Distortion

May 1, 2000

Claiming to have the world's lowest distortion figure, the WM8740 audio d/a converter offers an SNR of 117 dB and THD of –105 dB (0.000562%) for a stereo ‘A' weighted signal. The device offers three modes of operation. Normal mode uses on-board digital filters to minimize components. Hardware differential mode requires two WM8740s connected in parallel to increase audio performance. In 8fs mode, internal digital filters are bypassed to use the device with an external DSP-based filter or HDCD decoder.
