Timed with Intel's Santa Rosa embedded launch, the company's latest computer on module (COM) offerings include a pair of Core 2 Duo embedded PC modules. The COM 840 offers dual core processors operating at 1.6 GHz with the Intel 965 chipset in a Type 2 pinout in accordance with the PICMG COM.0 COM Express form factor. Also employing an 800-MHz FSB, the module supports up to 4 GB of RAM. An industrial-grade unit, the XTX 840 enlists the same chipset, processors, and a single RAM socket handling up to 2 GB of RAM. It provides PCI Express x1 lanes, additional USB ports, an LPC bus, and SATA to the baseboard, allowing designers to locate peripherals and connectors where they prefer. The COM 840 measures 95 mm x 125 mm and the XTX 840 is primarily a mechanically- and electrically-compatible upgrade for ETX baseboards. Support packages for both modules are available for Windows XP/XPe/CE and Linux 2.6. Samples of the COM 840 and XTX 840 will be available within 90 days. AMPRO COMPUTERS INC., San Jose, CA.
