Augmenting the ISOmodem family, the Si2401 embedded modem provides connection rates up to 2.4 kb/s over PSTN (synchronous/asynchronous) and promises a 30% reduction in board area and 75% reduction in power consumption compared to similar devices.

Augmenting the ISOmodem family, the Si2401 embedded modem provides connection rates up to 2.4 kb/s over PSTN (synchronous/asynchronous) and promises a 30% reduction in board area and 75% reduction in power consumption compared to similar devices. Board space shrinks via the integration of a DSP data pump, modem controller, codec, transformer, relays, opto-isolators, and a two-to-four wire hybrid in a compact, 16-pin SOIC. The modem also includes a 27-MHz clock input and PLL, eliminating the need for a crystal in set-top box applications. The Si2401 mates with the Si3010, a programmable global line interface that is also packaged in a 16-pin SOIC. Samples of Si2401 is available now with production scheduled for the third quarter. Pricing for the pair is $7.33 each/10,000 and an evaluation board, the Si2401URT-EVB, costs $150. SILICON LABORATORIES INC., Austin, TX. (877) 411-7522.
