Although they stand a mere 2 mm above a pc board, the members of the SDS switch family can detect the presence of mechanical devices in cameras, CD ROMs, card readers, copiers, and medical equipment. The new microminiature, surface-mountable detector switches occupy only 5.7 x 4.0 mm of board real estate, with the actuator mounted at right-angles to the board.Other key features of the switches include an over-travel spec of 2 mm , an actuation force of just 100g, and an operating temperature range of -20¡C to +60¡C. The devices are available in SPDT-N.O. and SPDT-N.C. styles, with the contacts rated for 100 mA at 12 Vdc. Mechanical and electrical life are both rated at 50,000 cycles. The SDS detector switches are priced at under $0.50 each/1,000 and are available taped-and-reeled for use in pick-and-place equipment. Lead times run to eight weeks. For more details, contact Allison Turner at ITT INDUSTRIES, CANNON, Watertown, MA. (617) 926-6400.
