SiGe Mixer Manages 2.5G/3G Base Stations

Oct. 8, 2008
With a bandwidth of 815 MHz to 1 GHz, the MAX2031 SiGe, up- and down-converting passive mixer is ready for deployment in 2.5G and 3G base-stations. The device specifies 36-dBm of IIP3, 27 dBm of IP1dB, 7dB of NF, and 7 dB of conversion loss.

Reportedly, its high level of integration results in a 2.5-times reduction in board space and a 33% reduction in component count. Integrated features include a double-balanced mixer core with an LO amplifier, LO buffer, two baluns, a SPDT LO switch, and an array of discrete components. Frequency hopping is supported via the LO switch with switching speeds of less than 50 ns and 49 dB of LO1-to-LO2 isolation. The 0-dBm drive, LO buffer provides ±3 dB of drive-variance control. Other features include a gain variation of 0.2/-0.3 dB and an IIP3 spread of ±0.3 dB over a temperature range from -40°C to 85°C. Available in a 20-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm TQFN package, price starts at $6.15 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
