Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX1947, the smallest 1-cell/2-cell input step-up dc-dc converter on the market. Its 2-MHz switching, current-mode control reduces component size, achieves over 94% efficiency, and gives fast transient responses. It integrates all switches (power switch, synchronous rectifier, and reverse current blocker) allowing for use in size-constrained hand-held equipment. It also features True Shutdown, which allows the load to be discharged and disconnected from the battery during shutdown to maximize battery life.

The MAX1947 accepts low inputs (0.7 V) and delivers low outputs (1.8 V). It offers fixed output options that eliminate an external feedback network, further reducing the component count. Its automatic pulse-skipping at light loads extends battery life.

The MAX1947 is available in a space-saving 3-mm x 3-mm, 8-pin-DFN package screened for the extended temperature range (-40°C to 85°C). Prices start at $1.55 each.
