3V D/A Converter Draws Little Power

Sept. 1, 1998

The industry's lowest power consumption for a 3V, voltage-mode D/A converter is claimed for the XRD54L08/L10/L12 family. The devices offer 8-, 10- and 12-bit resolution, respectively, and draw a maximum of 188 mW, including the reference. As a result, the converters are a good choice for digital calibration tasks in portable equipment such as remote industrial devices, medical monitors, and wireless systems. Each device has a three-wire serial port allowing users to daisy-chain them. The port supports Microwire, SPI and QSPI standards. Outputs are set at a gain of 2 and are capable of swinging from rail to rail. They are available in 8-pin DIPs and SOICs.
