Data Modem Offers Automatic Switching And Protection

Dec. 1, 1998

Offering a combination of protection, speed and versatility for DIN rail-mount industrial data communications applications, DCP485 modem lets computers, terminals and other industrial I/O devices communicate with each other over extended distances while protecting equipment and signals from damage or degradation due to ground loops, power surges, lightning strikes, and other electrical hazards. This short-haul data modem features automatic line switching and uses heavy-duty optical couplers and a transformer-isolated dc-to-dc converter to provide isolation of 7000 vdc surge for 1 minute and 1500 Vrms continuous. Also, ANSI/IEEE C37.90.1-1989 surge protection is provided on all RS-232/485 inputs and outputs and on dc inputs. Baud rate range is 0 to 115 kbps at distances up to 7 miles, and at 38.4 kbps operating distance is 1 mile.
