This year, we celebrate Electronic Design's 60th Anniversary with a special look at our most popular department, Ideas for Design. In the exclusive downloadable PDF above, we reprint classic submissions from 1956, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1993, and 2002 just as they originally appeared in our magazine. Analog/Power Editor Don Tuite offers some commentary on each of these gems, explaining how they were unique to their time—or perhaps something that would still work today.

Electronic Design’s popular Ideas for Design department features solutions for common design problems submitted by engineers just like you. These handy articles often encapsulate advice passed down from one designer to another around the workbench. In this column, Dave Van Ess recalls some of the tricks he has learned from his colleagues over the years.
