VisIC Technologies' D3GaN (direct drive depletion-mode gallium nitirde) solution offers better switching performance than cascade topologies, and is more robust than enhancement-mode devices. The company has produced the first GaN-based transistors used in automotive inverters and is now in the development and evaluation phase with several OEMs and Tier 1s for series production.

According to VisIC, D3GaN technology has been proven to reduce power losses by at least 50% while benefiting from the high-yield, low-cost proprietary design of GaN transistors. The company's packaging technology was developed to ensure high thermal conductivity to best utilize the semiconductor's capabilities. This optimization is important for inverter design and manufacturing, as it helps minimize the required paralleling and cost.
