Faster connection, easier dismountability and optimal electromagnetic protection are benefits claimed for the Pico-Nect ultra-miniature, SMT-type shielded connector for coaxial cables. The low-profile unit is used in medical ultra-sound equipment to connect coaxial cables to a probe, as well as in consumer electronic equipment that has LCDs, such as portable computers and virtual imaging headsets. The connectors feature a 0.5-mm pitch that permits up to 50 ultra-miniature coaxial cables ranging from AWG 3 to 42 (15 to 30 pF/ft) to be connected and disconnected at the same time. Cables are mounted on a device that holds them parallel inside the male connector, while the base is directly surface-mounted onto the pc board. The system ensures much faster, simultaneous connection of 50 coaxial cables in comparison to traditional methods, it’s claimed.
