Said to be the first quad PHY to offer user-selectable Media Independent Interface (MII) or Reduced Media Independent (RMII) operation, QQ84220 Fast Ethernet Transceiver reportedly can eliminate up to 240 board interconnect traces per typical 24 port system design. Additionally, the device provides design flexibility by including independently selectable TX (copper cable) and FX (fiber cable) capability on all four ports, eliminating the need for separate PHY devices in mixed-media environments. The transceiver includes fully integrated and configurable TX, FX or 10BaseT capability per port and a full featured register set of user-programmable options, including a power down mode. The device is also hardware configurable for lower cost applications without software control. And its low-power, 3.3V operation with 5V tolerant I/Os reduces system power consumption to less than 2W.
