SCS highlights Omegameter SMD 650 ionic testing system

Nov. 14, 2017

Specialty Coating Systems (SCS) is highlighting its next-generation software-controlled Omegameter SMD 650 ionic contamination test system this week at Medica 2017 in Düsseldorf.

A self-contained system, the Omegameter is an industry standard for accurate, efficient, and practical quality-assurance testing, SCS said. The system identifies the presence of ionic contamination on bare and assembled printed circuit boards and other electronic components, and it provides an accurate and repeatable method for determining cleanliness on location. Additionally, the Omegameter provides immediate process control results, eliminating the need for outside laboratory testing, and it verifies proper cleanliness of surfaces prior to the application of conformal coatings or potting compounds. The system complies with current industrial specifications such as ANSI/J-STD-001 and IPC-TM-650 and obsolete military specifications such as MIL-STD-2000A.

The Omegameter SMD 650 features several enhancements to previous model Omegameters:

  • An onboard computer provides software operation.
  • Software monitors and records the solution temperature, replacing the need to manually measure the temperature with a thermometer.
  • A step-down feature lowers the test cell, making it easier to load parts.
  • Numerous software features support unlimited test profiles with custom names, runtime contamination graphs, sort/filter/review historical test results, and more.

Headquartered in Indianapolis, IN, Specialty Coating Systems offers liquid-coating systems, including spray, spin, and dip coating systems; thermal and UV cure systems; and ionic contamination test systems. SCS also offers Parylene conformal coating services, systems, and materials with more than 45 years of application experience in medical-device, electronics, automotive, and military industries.
