A SPECCTRAQuest design methodology for system boards based on Intel's forthcoming Merced processor will reduce the time required to design high-speed systems by providing the ability to rapidly architect, explore, design and verify designs. The methodology will be implemented through a design kit including: a verified signal-integrity I/O model for the processor and its supporting chipset; efficient interconnect topology templates; and a packaged processor model, including critical ground-bounce data. The methodology gives users of the SPECCTRAQuest interconnect designer an environment that will enable them to address timing, signal integrity, EMI, simultaneous switching noise, and interconnect verification issues before committing to component placement and signal routing.
